    Chikhaldara Hill Station

    The beautiful Chikhaldara hill station is surrounded with several tourist spot. Formerly known as Keechakadara where according to legends Bheema triumphed over Keechaka in a bout and hurled him into the valley is now known as Chikhaldara located in the Amravati district of Maharashtra where the state ends and Madhya Pradesh begins. Located 1088 metres above sea level, the place is the only coffe producing hill station enriched with a variety of flora and fauna amidst the alluring beauty of nature.

    Places to Visit in Chikhaldara

    Panchbol Point

    Panchbol Point is a famous tourist spot in Chikhaldara that lies close to the Bir Lake. The main speciality of this point is that when someone shouts here, the sound is reflected back and heard five times. Hence, this place is named as the Five Echo Point or Panchbol Point. This area is mainly a deep valley formed by four mountains, along with waterfalls.

    Bhimkund-Kichakdara

    Bhimkund-Kichakdara holds mythological significance that attracts tourists, especially Hindu pilgrims year-round. This is the place, where Bhima killed Kichaka and threw his body into the valley, named Kichakdara. Bhimkund is the place, where Bhima took bath after killing Kichaka. Bhimkund is located 2 km south of the Alladhoh village in Chikhaldara, on the route to Paratwada. It is about 3,500 ft deep and is well-known for the nearby waterfalls and cascades.

    Gawaligad Fort

    Gawaligad Fort is situated in the Amravati District, close to Chikhaldara. This fort is around 300 years old and was once controlled by Hindu and Mughal rulers. There are many carved sculptures in this fort that were constructed during the period of Nizams. The 10 cannons in this fort are made from copper, brass and iron. There are two lakes present within the fort, namely Khambtaloa and Bamnitaloa. A Gawali King, who was a descendent of Yadavas of Devagiri, built this fort during the 12th century.The three gates of this fort are known as the Delhi Darwaza, Kichakdara Darwaza and Fatheh Darwaza.

    Hariken Point

    Hariken Point is located towards the south of the upper plateau of Chikhaldara. Located close to the Government Garden, Traveller can see the Mozari village, Vairat Hills and Gawaligad Fort from this point.

    Pandit Nehru Botanical Gardens

    Pandit Nehru Botanical Gardens is situated in the upper plateau area of Chikhaldara. This garden is also referred to as the Government Garden or Company Garden. There are some of the rare species of plants and flowers available at this garden. This garden is also famous for the different varieties of rose flowers as well as a toy train with signals and a guard. There is a swimming tank available at this botanical garden, which was provided by the ‘Hanuman Vyam Prasarak Mandal’. Moreover, the area where the Gawali tribe lived in the garden is called as the Pandhari village.

    Melghat

    Melghat Tiger Reserve is situated in Maharashtra, on the southern offshoot of the Satpura Hill Range. This reserve boasts a diverse ecosystem, including the prime habitat of tigers, within its tropical dry deciduous forests dominated by teak trees. It serves as a vital catchment area for five major rivers, including Khandu, Khapra, Sipna, Gadga, and Dolar, all tributaries of the Tapti River. The rugged topography of Melghat, with limited entry points, provides natural protection. Notable plateaus in the region include Makhala, Chikhaldara, Chiladari, Patulda, and Gugamal, ensuring its long-term conservation potential. Designated a Tiger Reserve in 1974, Melghat covers an area of approximately 1677 sq. km., with the core Gugarnal National Park and buffer Melghat Tiger Sanctuary. Additionally, the area features historical treasures such as the Gavilgarh and Narnala forts, enhancing its aesthetic appeal.
